- Workshops in improvisation and choreography, drawing on approaches from many sources
- Workshops in dance writing, focusing on sentence structure, rhythm, and principles of dance journalism. Students learn about writing not only reviews but also interviews, features, previews, blogs, etc.
- “Brown bag lunch” for students on current dance issues, how and where to jump-start careers, the life of a dancer/writer, and how the internet has changed the way we see dance
- Book reading/signing
- Guest talks on these topics: Judson Dance Theater and the 1960s; Ballet/modern crossovers; Fusion, Non-Fusion, and Confusion; Dances of Social Consciousness; American Contemporary Dance
- Adjudicating: competitions or funding panels
- Moderating panels and conducting interviews with dance artists
- Mentoring/advising choreographers
- Observing student work, giving feedback, and generating discussion
